WHAT DOES SERP RANKING MEAN?

SERP ranking or Search Engine Results Page ranking is the position a website appears in a search engine’s results page for example at google or yahoo. To measure the accurate ranking of your website keywords are entered into the search engine. For example the keywords hotel, London, cheap are used to find a hotel room for a city trip in London.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF SERP RANKINGS

Describing all Serps that are around would take hours so we categorized them in the following 3 types:

Organic Serps
These are the most useful to the user. Organic Serps show the natural results that the search engine has selected as being the most relevant to the user’s search query.

Paid Serps
As the name suggests these Serps are purchased by website owners as a way to improve the organic selection process and make the website easier to find for the user. How it works is that the advertiser receives money for each click that the website receives and the website that is willing to pay the highest price per click will receive the best Serp ranking position.

Contextual Serps
These are generated by the context that the search keywords provide and can come in many forms like maps, for a local search, hotel reviews for a booking related query, images for a visual related search or even business reviews for a specific service query.

WHY SERP TRACKING MATTERS?

Once your website is up and running probably the most difficult thing to do is to attract visitors. As most of your potential visitors are using search engines such as google or yahoo to find your website the better your Serp ranking on these search engines, the easier it is for users to find your website.

Various user tests proved that merely the first 3 Serp positions get over 35% of the search traffic and as many as 75% of users never click past the first page.
